People ask me all the time if I grew up sewing. The answer is no, which is a shame considering all of the talented women that were sewing and quilting around me throughout my childhood. Both of my grandmothers and my godmother were/are talented seamstresses and quilters in the foothills of NC. When our daughter, Ava Caroline, was born, I told my husband I wanted a sewing machine for Christmas. His first response was, "Why?" And his next response was, "Do you know how to use one?" Of course I didn't, so I searched online for a local sewing center. Luckily, I stumbled upon Learn 2 Sew, Inc. in Hollywood, FL where I met Cindy, the owner. She is an amazing seamstress & business woman who is able to teach the wonderful art of sewing and share her passion for sewing in every class. I signed up for the 2-hour machine class, which teaches the basics of machine set-up and usage. I left that first (and only) basic sewing class armed with my own new found passion, very little skill, and a sewing 101 guide book to help me through the rough spots. Milkmouth allows me to connect my inner creativity with my passion for design. I am NOT a skilled seamstress or designer. I simply create things that I would want for my own daughter. Now that Ava is 2, she comes into the studio and asks," Is that one for me, mommy?" She truly is my inspiration! I am truly blessed to be surrounded by an amazing and supportive husband, loving parents and the best friends and family ever...you guys rock! Without their constant words of encouragement and support as loyal customers, none of this would be possible. I hope that my grandmothers are looking down from above on everything Milkmouth and saying, "Isn't that just...'udderly adorable'?" |
